Recently AOC did a pathetic fawning interview with some pseudo-radical Jacobin hack who offered zero pushback and just went along with whatever she spouted and affirmed her so as to help her create the persona of being some radical anti-imperialist hero.
DSA is a big red flag to me. These clowns are nothing more than liberal, center right Reagan conservatives, cosplaying as people pretending to give a fuck. They don't. It's all virtue signalling.
In my experience this is the case for the majority, but as I note in the social imperialism piece as well there is a contingent of people inside it who are anti-imperialist and are trying to push the org in that direction, like the DSA International Committee. If you look at the responses they get whenever they publish something you'll see why I'm not very optimistic that they can succeed (see for example: https://twitter.com/dsa_intl_comm/status/1547217937039253505).
Thank you for writing this article, Zei. This is the type of constructive article I wish more left-wingers wrote instead of just doing those lame “own the libs” stuff against her.
I really cannot believe you blocked me on Twitter! So disappointing that a person I thought was an independent thinker and followed and read cannot take an honest challenge from a normal person.
I don't know who you are, but if you want to be unblocked just post your username and I'll do so. I get a constant stream of the most deranged shit in my notifications on twitter, and I always follow my instincts in when to block to limit it at least somewhat. Sometimes people who don't deserve it get caught up in that, but it's the only way to keep it usable for me.
Hi. I am Talchinsky. No one knows me. I'm a nobody. I am @talchinsky on Twitter. I am and was a good faith follower of yours who appreciates broad povs including yours. I'm probably going to be a Cornel voter. I made a good faith challenge of your ad hominem attack of Jimmy Dore and got some likes and then you blocked me and I'm sorry but I did then call you Mr. Sensitive (and sorry for assuming your gender!). If you unblock me I'll still follow you. :)
This may be a bit reaching, but I feel that much of the American Left (the real left) has drifted away from AOC as much as she drifted away from her initial campaign. There’s no doubt that she has betrayed many of her promises such as her now being soft on Israel and siding with establishment Democrats.
However, this may be just me speaking for myself, but a lot of the American left has radicalized to the point that someone pushing for “FDR style liberalism” isn’t going to cut it. I feel a good example of this is how Cornel West is becoming the voice of the current left and how hat is such a contrast to when it was Bernie Sanders back when AOC was a rising star still in her honeymoon period.
Well yes if you add the qualifier of a real, principled anti-imperialist left that by definition excludes these social imperialists.
But if you go by numbers, the DSA is the largest "leftist" organization, and its main media outlet is represented by Jacobin. They are still fully in the AOC camp and are doing everything they can to present her as a radical while never criticizing her. The Cuba thing alone should be unforgivable, but they don't even care. I saw DSA people responding to that interview saying stuff like "she is normalizing communism, can't wait for her to go to Cuba soon!" It's a delusional cult.
Those aligned with groups like PSL and the Greens or not at all interested in electoral politics are critical of her and the whole Soc-Dem pseudo-radical project, but unfortunately this comprises a small portion of an already very small US "left", as defined by self-description as socialist (so the whole Bernie-AOC to Jacobin camp).
I agree with all of this. I, like many others, left the DSA for actual left wing organizations. The leadership and the biggest advocates are basically just people who want free college and healthcare. Hell I remember listening to a podcast interview how leadership in New York essentially said they wanted to increase funding to the police.
Last time I checked the DSA's membership was under a steep decline with over 10% of all members leaving in just a single year. I hope this continues and they find their way to actual left wing movements/organizations.
Let me think how China would do this job if we need petroleum: we would try to cultivate relationship while give percentage of profit to form a new business for both sides benefits. Simple and crude is an American way. I agree with you that no country should be suppressed fr the imperialist, unless they need a friendly mediate.

Alright, unblocked now.
So cool! Thanks.
Richard Medhurst put it best:
“And then they [the Squad] call themselves “progressive”…what the fuck does that mean? You’re an Imperialist who wants Healthcare.”
