Yesterday I came across a clip of Hillary and Chelsea Clinton’s new show called “Gutsy”, which is ostensibly about highlighting what various “gutsy women” have accomplished. In reality it’s a self-serving propaganda series aimed at laundering the Clintons—its producers and hosts—as brave progressive feminists who are fighting against fascism and “online disinformation” and all sorts of other evils. This is why hardly anyone will watch it, even among the Clintons’ most devoted blue MAGA fans. There is nothing new there, there is nothing interesting, it’s terribly produced, it’s the equivalent of a Trump cult-docuseries that hails him as a saint-like genius, with the only difference that that will reach a much broader audience as he still has a devoted significant cult-following and a hate-following to boot, whereas among Democrats and the broader public the Clintons are mainly perceived as non-entities or just reviled,
Like you, and many on the left, I thought Contrapoints's Envy video was a major blunder, but the solidarity-crushing purity derby is a worse problem than one breadtuber making a mistake. I'll still look in on her content when she tackles something I'm interested in.
Though I do prefer Abigail Thorn. Also a trans advocate, Marxist, and philosopher, but with a bit less of... that.
I've always had some issues with Contrapoints videos, not only the couple of new ones, but even before them. That being said, I've also thought she's "decent" overall.
I'm aware people might "close an eye" on the figures that aren't in the spotlight recently, and people can always change, right? The issue is... WE KNOW SHE HASN'T. During most recent election she was demonizing Bernie, there's no way you can forget that so fast, right?
I don't mean it in a "Bernie was the saviour" way, however, I can understand how someone can not notice all the problems with Hillary were if they're relatively new to following US politics and every major politician is corrupt and it's swept under the rug by media. But Hillary's disdain to Bernie wasn't.
I'm certainly disappointed in Contrapoints, even if I didn't really consider her videos "amazing".
One question to squirrel - do you have any source of Natalie earning "millions a year"? I certainly doubt it's the case but I can't say I know that for sure. Other than that, you're great as always.
Do you know who is a TERF too? Noam Chomsky. Recently I asked him to sign a manifest supporting transwomen's human rights and he said no thank you, that those "transwomen's" rights intrude with women's rights, like destroying women's sports, and make women feel uncomfortable, who already fought hard for sex-segregated spaces. So take it into account when you cite him.
Problematic favs are problematic.
